In chapter 17, The whole village is moarning because of the death of the boys. Becky is really upset, and regretted what how she acted in her last moments with Tom. All the kids at school were arguing because they all said they were the ones to see them last, as they all remembered stories about Tom and Joe. Then , the little church was crowded with people, all moarning as they listened to the minister tell stories about how "caring the boys have been. Then suddenly, the three boys appeared walking down the aisle of the church, and Aunt Polly, Mary, Sid and the Harper Family ruched to hug and kiss Tom and Joe, and afterwards Huck too. Everyone was surprised to see them, and the whole church was celebrating that the three boys were alive. Tom was hugged and kissed by his family and everyone was so happy to see him, as well as Joe. But sadly, no one showed much interest for Huck. The last line in the chapter: "And he hardly knew which expressed the most gratefulness for god and affection for himself" means that Tom was unsure which kisses Aunt Polly gave him showing him affection and gladness, and which ones shoewed only affection and gratitude towards God. Yet both expressed great happiness for the fact that he was alive, but, ones were to show God how grateful she was for having his nephey alive and with her, and the other ones to show the eagerness and happiness to Tom himself.
In Chapter 12 of Tom Sawyer, Aunt Polly is trying a series of remedies and medicines to cure Tom from his condition. I don't think Tom is REALLY sick, he is just depressed and with low energies. He got sick psycologically after finding out that Becky was very sick and stopped attending school. Aunt Pollys remedies are from a subscription that have "cures" that consist on excercise and food diets, what to wear, and several other things he has to do. These "cures" change every month, so they are either superticious or made up by someone. Besides, if the cures DID work, they would have an effect on Tom, because he is only feeling depression. I think it is realistic to feel sick if one is feeling depressed or mad, it is a matter of how your brain works psycologically. Also, I think the painkiller DID have an effect on Tom because it is a really strong medicine that has a noticeable effect on people.
One time, about a year ago, we were celebrating Hanukkah in my grandparent's house. We were all listening to my sister read the prayer, when I starded to hear laughter. Three of my cousins were laughing in a very low voice, so none of the adults would notice. A looked for what they were laughing at, and i finally saw it. My little cousin, not evn a year old, was blowing out the candles from the menorah, but he couldn't so he got frustrated and strarted to blow at it but he was kind of spitting at it too. After a while, everyone was laughing, even some of the adults. Then he got so frustrated that he shouted! And then everyone turned to look at him still trying to blow out the candle, and everyone burst into laughter!
Based on what I have read so far, in my opinion, Tom Sawyer is a very clever boy. Tom is a very unique person. He likes tricking people a lot, so, I would be Tom's friend if I knew him because he seems like a very fun person. On the other hand, Tom is also a very conflictive person. I wouldn't want to be in fights all the time. Being such a claver boy, he would take advantage of me as his "friend" or he could trick me into doing his work, and I don't want a friend like that ever. So I would like to be Tom's friend because of all the fun he has, but mostly, I wouldn't want to be his friend because of how he treats some people.
